Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah are the top two favourites in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot. The two players have scored at least 20 league goals this season and it’s unlikely that they would be usurped by the chasing pack.
Kane leads the race with 21 goals, while Mo Salah is on 20 goals but the Egyptian national team talisman has a one-game advantage over the Englishman ahead of the final two weeks of this Premier League campaign. Mo Salah and Liverpool have four games left to play in the league, while Kane and Spurs have just three games to go before the season wraps up.
The extra game for Liverpool is at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Thursday night thus leading to the question if Salah would be able to take advantage of the extra game or not in his quest to win the Golden Boot for the third time. The former AS Roma attacker has won the Golden Boot in two or his first three seasons upon his return to the league in 2017.
Mo Salah and Kane surprisingly failed to score in their last league game at the weekend. Egyptian international Salah provided just an assist for fellow African star Sadio Mane as his Liverpool team beat Southampton 2-0 at home. Spanish international Thiago Alcantara wrapped up the points for the Reds in the second half with his first goal for the team after the first half strike from Mane. Salah can get back to scoring form against arch rivals Manchester United on Thursday.
Kane didn’t score at the weekend as Spurs suffered a big dent to their Champions League bid with a 3-1 loss at Leeds United. Son scored the only goal for Tottenham Hotspur, while the likes of Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford and substitute Rodrigo were on target for the hosts.
