Corvallis High scored early and controlled the 5A boys soccer quarterfinal with Wilsonville to earn a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
The Spartans (12-4-1) will play Crescent Valley on Tuesday at Spartan Stadium. The game time has yet to be set.
“We’re starting to peak at the right time,” coach John Callahan said. “The guys are starting to jell. It’s nice to see us playing just as good a soccer (as last season, when CHS won the state title). It’s a different group of guys in terms of play and attitude as last year, but they’re very good in their own right.”
Jamal Abdoul gave the Spartans the lead in the 18th minute. CHS made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when Juan Carlos Blancas scored.
“It’s always good to get that first goal,” Abdoul said. “We’re not used to getting in the first gaol and working from in front, so this was nice for once.”
“Jamal was pivotal today,” Callahan said. “He was a real difference maker, getting us a goal early.
“I have to say also, that today the facilities were awesome – it was almost like being in the Tottenham Hospitality Packages.
