We call it football, but the American’s call it soccer in order to differentiate from their national sport. In fact soccer is the most popular team game in the world and it is played in 200 countries; it is estimated that there are 250 million football players in the world. Thus it comes as no surprise that some of the most popular sports themed slot machines and video slot games found at online and real casinos are based on soccer. One of these is worthy of special mention if only for its originality. The game is called Soccer Safari and is one of the top football themes slots.
INTER CLOSE THE GAP
After managing a 2-0 win over Sampdoria recently, Inter Milan managed to close the gap on their archrivals AC Milan to just seven points with only a few matches remaining.
AC Milan currently occupy the third position in the Italian Serie A table. It would guarantee them the ability to play in the Champions League group stages next season. Inter Milan started the season with the objective of qualifying for this elite competition, but they have been suffering from a poor form since the turn of the year. This has started speculation that Inter may part ways with their manager.
FERGUSON HAILS SIDE
The manager of Peterborough United, Darren Ferguson, has hailed his side for the brilliant performance in the match against Millwall FC, but, he has also said that his team should not get complacent with this convincing victory and should show the same kind of intensity in all the remaining games of the ongoing Championship.
CORVALLIS LOSE OUT IN OVERTIME
Woodburn celebrated its 5A state championship nearby.
The 2-1 overtime loss was a tough one to swallow for the Spartans.
That doesn’t mean finishing second was taken as a failure by Callahan or his players.
“I’m not disappointed. I’m very, very proud of this group,” Callahan said. “They put a lot together, put a lot on the line and they came through when they had to. They put themselves in a position to win the championship game. So you can’t ask for anything more.”
It was a game of missed opportunities for CHS.
INTO THE FINAL
Nick Creswick and Jamal Abdoul turned to each other while in line waiting to shake hands with the Crescent Valley High players and shot their index fingers in the air.
One more game.
The Corvallis High boys soccer team is headed to the 5A state championship game after a 3-0 win over the Raiders in a semifinal game on Tuesday evening at Spartan Stadium.
“It means so much,” said Abdoul, a senior forward. “Redemption and all. It’s a pretty amazing feeling.”
Corvallis will take on Woodburn for the championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hillsboro Stadium.
CALLAHAN: WE’RE STARTING TO PEAK
Corvallis High scored early and controlled the 5A boys soccer quarterfinal with Wilsonville to earn a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
The Spartans (12-4-1) will play Crescent Valley on Tuesday at Spartan Stadium. The game time has yet to be set.
“We’re starting to peak at the right time,” coach John Callahan said. “The guys are starting to jell. It’s nice to see us playing just as good a soccer (as last season, when CHS won the state title). It’s a different group of guys in terms of play and attitude as last year, but they’re very good in their own right.”
